Natural Law - Teachers and presentations
Below is a short list of presentations and teachers on the subject of Natural Law.
Before sharing this list I will disclose my bias: I lean towards (unhyphenated) anarchism. And the idea of ‘Natural Law’ that I am referring to has nothing to do with ‘Common Law’, or any ‘Constitution’ or any interpretation of Natural Law that might have been mediated or filtered through (for example) theologians or religious scholars who — in galling arrogance — claim to have the final word on spiritual law.
My recommendations below reflect this bias, and these teachers convey these ideas more accurately and forcefully than I have yet found the time to do myself.
Mark Passio
The first teacher I recommend — who for people already familiar with Natural Law may need no introduction — is Mark Passio. You can find his podcasts and lectures at https://whatonearthishappening.com/ . He has published a long documentary on Natural Law which can be found in the videos section of his website: https://whatonearthishappening.com/videos .
Jackie Krasna
For people looking for a shorter introduction to the topic, Jackie Krasna has published a brief synopsis on Natural Law in a 13-minute presentation at https://odysee.com/@JackieKrasna:e/Defining-Natural-Law:b . She clearly explains some of the points I tried to make above (e.g. that Natural Law has nothing to do with Common Law).
Nemo Jones
Nemo Jones has written a five-part series of articles on Natural Law on his substack: https://reportingforbeauty.substack.com/ . Here are the first two articles:
The others are available on his substack.
Devin Woleman
Lastly … Devin Woleman has a podcast entitled 'Worldview Dilemma' which — although not dedicated solely or even primarily to the question of Natural Law — touches on important ancillary and related topics. His podcast is at https://odysee.com/@archivegeneration:b?view=content .
Notes
-
Some people might prefer the term ʻSpiritual Lawʼ or ʻCosmic Lawʼ rather than Natural Law to avoid association with social darwinism or ʻsurvival of the fittestʼ ideologies.
-
This idea of ‘Natural Law’ also has nothing to do with ‘clever interpretations’ of positive (man-made) law, or ‘legal tricks’ or finding ‘loopholes’ in some obscure clauses of man-made legal documents. Such efforts — aside from being idiotic and juvenile — are likely counter-productive because they implicitly confer legitimacy on man-made laws (which don’t necessarily have anything whatsoever to do with truth or morality).
